Animal Protection Society
The Animal Protection Society (APS) of Durham runs our local county shelter and provides temporary safe haven to the homeless animals in our community. We proudly support the APS and encourage you to consider adopting your next pet from the thousands of pets the APS cares for each year.
Paws4ever
Paws4ever Animal Sanctuary in Mebane is a limited-access shelter which provides support to our entire animal welfare community, including open-admission county shelter partners. P4E commits to their animals for a lifetime and never euthanizes for space. They also offer positive reinforcement dog training classes. Find your new best friend there.
Beyond Fences
Beyond Fences, formerly The Coalition to Unchain Dogs, is a non-profit, volunteer effort dedicated to improving the welfare of dogs living outdoors on chains. As volunteers of this great organization that not only forever changes the lives of dogs but the lives of their guardians and our community as a whole, we can tell you the results of their work is nothing short of extraordinary.
Independent Animal Rescue
Independent Animal Rescue’s (IAR) mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned and abused animals. A network of foster homes, IAR has been helping the homeless animals of our area since 1994.
Spay-Neuter Assistance Program
Being so involved with animal welfare work within our community, we are painfully aware of our pet overpopulation problem. The Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) of NC provides full-service, lost cost spay/neuter services and a much needed service through their mobile vet unit.
Animal Kind
Animal Kind is dedicated to eradicating pet-overpopulation and tackles that task creatively and effectively through their various programs and affiliations. Most notably, Animal Kind has piloted the very successful $20 Fix program; providing $20 spay/neuter surgeries to low-income residents.
Good Human Dog Training
This is the BCPS founder’s new business and our favorite trainer around. Jennifer Thornburg, and her growing team of positive reinforcement dog trainers are indeed good humans. They offer programs for puppies and adult dogs as well as reward based behavior modification to resolve unwanted behaviors in the house. Jen also specializes in helping families with dogs prepare for life with a baby.
