Durham loves its dogs. So much that many (most?) of its favorite bars are welcoming of our pups. And why not? Dogs tend to make just about everything cuter and more fun.
If you’re heading out for a drink this weekend, consider taking your furry friend with you. Think you love your dog now? Wait until you’ve had a couple. It’s just a shame they can’t drive you home.
Here are some of our favorite places to grab a pint with our pooch.
1. Fullsteam Brewery
Since it opened, Fullsteam has been immensely popular. The brewery prides itself on its “Plow to Pint” philosophy, crafting beers out of traditional Southern ingredients from local farms.
Dogs are welcome in the large indoor area just inside the doors and in the outdoor spaces which surround the building.
Motorco has been one of Durham’s premier music venues. With the addition of Parts & Labor, the restaurant attached to the bar and venue, Motorco evolved into a great place for an all-day hang.
Not only do they allow dogs, they LOVE dogs. They even have an Instagram account dedicated to the canines that visit the joint (@dogsofmotorco)
It might be the new kid on the block, but Ponysaurus has quickly cemented its place among Durham’s favorite breweries. Its Hood Street location features an abundance of outdoor space, complete with grills you and your friends can cook on.
Hit Ponysaurus on a nice day and you’ll find plenty of pups enjoying the vibes. There is more than enough space for dogs to play with each other or carve out a little corner for some “me time.”
4. Beer Study/Starpoint Brewery
Located just outside downtown near the intersection of University and 15-501 Business, Beer Study has developed an almost cult-like following among its patrons. It is both a bottle shop (carryout only) and brewery. They feature a dizzying number of taps with beers from around the country and also just several feet away in the brewery.
Dogs are welcome both inside and out, whether its trivia night or DJ night. They are also welcome in the back room, which features old school arcade games, board games and more.
5. Sam’s Bottle Shop
Sam’s is officially a Durham institution. The original Sam’s Quik Stop has been the place to go for beer in Durham since the 1970’s. Their South Durham location, Sam’s Bottle Shop, sells pints and individual bottles out of six-packs for people to enjoy.
Your furry friend is welcome inside the bar and on the rooftop patio, which is mighty nice when the sun’s out.
6. Kotuku Surf Club
Surf Club has been one of the city’s favorite watering holes since it opened. It boasts a cozy interior and an expansive outdoor area with its own bar (with a bocce court, no less!). Drinks are as reasonable as you’ll find downtown.
This place is usually swarming with dogs, which have free reign of the space, indoor and out. It’s a great place for you and your pup to meet new friends.
